Prevent Problems Before They Grow
Damp, Condensation & Mould
Damp and mould aren’t just unpleasant—they can affect your health and damage your home. The good news? With a few simple habits and the right support from your landlord and letting agent, you can help keep your space safe, dry, and comfortable.

What’s the Cause…
Condensation – Warm, moist air hits cold surfaces (like windows or walls).
Damp – Moisture builds up and lingers.
Mould – Damp patches create the perfect conditions for mould to grow.
This usually happens when there isn’t enough ventilation, the heating’s kept too low, or clothes are dried indoors without good airflow.
Mould-Free Home Checklist
Daily Habits
- Wipe down damp windows & walls
- Open windows or use trickle vents (yes, even in winter!)
- Turn on extractor fans when cooking or showering
- Use a vented airer or tumble dryer – not radiators
- Keep your home heated (even low heat helps!)
- Don’t block airflow with furniture or radiators
- Tackle mould early with anti-mould spray or vinegar
Extra Hacks
- Use a dehumidifier if you can
Add air-purifying plants (ferns, spider plants) - Clean small mould patches safely (mask & gloves!)
- Dry wet spots straight away & report leaks quickly
Tip: A little effort each day goes a long way in keeping your flat fresh and mould-free!
